Automatic Control Valves

Automatic Control Valves (ACVs) are used in a variety of plumbing applications to automatically turn water on or off as well as regulate the amount and pressure of water delivered. Backflow Prevention Specialists, Inc. (BPS, Inc.) can install, repair, and replace ACVs, and assist operators with starting up systems and trouble-shooting ACVs.

Backflow Prevention Assembly Testing

California State Law requires all backflow prevention assemblies whether they are installed internally or at a water service meter to be tested annually. Our knowledgeable office staff is ready to answer your call and are trained to assist you with this annual requirement. We work closely with our clients and Administrative Authorities to assure that your annual backflow testing compliance requirements are met. Our Backflow Assembly Testers are California-Nevada Section American Water Works Association (CA-NV AWWA) certified and have experience testing all makes, models and sizes of backflow prevention assemblies approved for use in the State of California.

Cross-Connection Control Program Specialist Consultation Services

BPS, Inc. has knowledgeable CA-NV AWWA certified Cross-Connection Control Program Specialists eager to assist with the development or refinement of the Rules, Regulations, Policies and Procedures pertaining to a Cross-Connection Control Program required of the Water Supplier by the State of California. Strong relationships with many different Water Suppliers and Administrative Authorities has provided us with resources that our clients benefit from when developing, implementing and maintaining a Cross-Connection Control Program with BPS, Inc.

Since the protection of the water system within a building is the Property Owners' responsibility Cross-Connection Control Programs are not limited to just Water Suppliers. Many knowing property owners are implementing Cross-Connection Control Programs to protect the quality of the drinking water their employees consume from the various equipment and processes that could contaminate the drinking water supply throughout a building. An irrigation system, toilet or urinal could backflow feces into the drinking water supply if not properly protected from backflow. Internal backflow assemblies that are not tested and maintained in accordance with current Laws and Regulations are a potential liability for a property owner. A Cross-Connection Control Program includes performing Cross-Connection Surveys to determine if the drinking water system within a building is properly protected from backflow as well as keeping up with annual backflow testing and maintenance requirements. Most property owners are unaware of potential backflow problems until a backflow incident actually occurs. By then it's too late. A Cross-Connection Control Program is an inexpensive way to prevent an expensive and potentially deadly incident from occurring within your drinking water system.

Cross-Connection Control Site Surveys

Although many businesses, campuses and some residential homes may have a backflow prevention assembly installed at the water service meter, the water inside a building may not be safe from cross-connection hazards. A cross-connection is an actual or potential connection between drinking water and water (or another substance such as a chemical or gas) that is not safe to drink. If a cross-connection exists within a building's internal plumbing supply, there is a potential for this contaminated or polluted water to backflow (the undesired reversed flow of water or substances) into the internal drinking water supply system. Buildings and properties with equipment such as boilers, cooling towers, pumps, irrigation systems, laboratories, and swimming pools are at a greater risk of a backflow incident.

BPS, Inc. can conduct cross-connection control surveys of commercial, institutional, and residential properties. Our thorough surveys enable us to determine if cross-connections hazards exist on your property. We will provide you with a detailed report indicating the location and types of hazards as well as measures to mitigate the hazards. We have conducted internal cross-connection control surveys for major businesses and campuses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley.

Recycled Water Cross-Connection Control Shutdown Tests

Property owners utilizing recycled water (or other approved non-potable water sources) for internal or external uses like toilet flushing or landscape irrigation are required to have a cross-connection control shutdown test performed to verify that there are no connections between the potable and recycled water systems prior to recycled water being delivered to the property. The shutdown test must be performed by a certified Cross-Connection Control Specialist, and depending on how recycled water is used, this test may need to be repeated every four years with a visual inspection conducted annually.

All BPS, Inc. technicians are trained and certified CA-NV AWWA Cross-Connection Control Specialists, and we have performed hundreds of shutdown tests throughout California. We are also able to perform annual visual cross-connection control inspections for buildings that are dual-plumbed with recycled water.

Service Contracts

BPS, Inc. offers service contracts for annual backflow assembly testing and certification, cross-connection control surveys and inspections, recycled water site supervisor services, and servicing and repair for ACVs. Service contracts are available to residential, commercial and institutional/governmental customers. By entering into a service contract with us, customers can lock in the service rate for the duration of the contract (usually between 2 to 5 years).
